Why aren't our paths safe in the snow?

Earlier today I made the journey from North Greenwich Station to the

Woolwich Road. Not to shabby (and the 161 was seemingly running without

issue, desite earlier problems during the day). All was fine until I

stepped off the bus. And instead of being able to walk safely, I was

left having to battle a sheet of ice. The whole of the Woolwich road is

like an ice rink. Both sides. There's no way of getting anywhere safely

if you have to walk down the road.

The safest part is the actual road - and it's too busy to even consider

that. But it's dangerous. It was the same last year too. And the year

before. I know this, because I remember falling over and smacking my hip

on the pavement. The road I live on (just off the Woolwich Road) is

actually gritted. But it's not much good if I can't get anywhere else. I

wasn't wearing heels, but I was gripping onto the railings along the

side of the road for dear life.

According to Greenwich Council website, they ARE gritting our roads:

"Greenwich Council is responding to winter

weather with a team of six specialist gritters working from Birchmere

Depot in Thamesmead and a stockpile of more than 2,500 tonnes of rock

salt. The number of salt bins around the borough has also been

increased.

The gritting teams have been working constantly

since Monday and are covering the priority routes around the borough.

Cleansweep workers are working to clear paths in town centres and

transport hubs. "

So why isn't one of the busiest paths in Greenwich safe? It's no good

being able to get out of my house if I slip over the second I leave my

road - I can't get to the bus stop. I can't get to the supermarket, and I

can't walk anywhere.

Anyone else having problems in other areas of Greenwich? I'm really not

impressed and would like someone to tell me exactly why one of the

busiest roads in Greenwich is unsafe to walk down.
