An average pub with a great reputation

I don't think I'll ever understand the fuss with this pub. If it hasn't happened in nine years, it's really not likely to. There is nothing wrong with this pub. It's a perfectly fine pub. In fact, despite my rating it's very probably deserving of four stars. But i never EVER stay for more than one drink. Nothing in nine years has convinced me to stay here longer. Except once when my friend and I bagsied the bench outside. I don't know why, I just get on better with other pubs in the area. It's possible I always catch the place at it's busiest, and everyone says nice things about the food. They've always got good ales on (although erring to the bitter side of things, rather than the pale ale, and that might not help my drink choices). It's not a cheap pub. And if I'm here, it's as a stopgap. You'll probably have a lovely time if you pop in, I'll just walk on by to the Cutty Sark, and smile at the cool statue, and smile at the happy people in the summer. It's a Greenwich gem. Even Dickens liked it :-)

    Great experience

I had a totally different experience to the last reviewer! I've been here a couple of times, and I agree with the comment on the location: it's cracking and probably the best thing about the venue. Right on the water with lovely big windows so you can eat while looking over the river. I came with a big group of foodie people who had chosen it as a great place for lunch. We all had various sunday roasts - there must have been 20 of us in all, and they put us in the back room so we had plenty of space. We had lots of children with us and they were all made to feel welcome and given toys etc. Food was delicious, cooked just right and plenty of it. The ringleader of our group is a wine collector and seemed to approve of what was being served up in the form of a red, although i don't drink it so can't comment personally. Bill was reasonable, staff were friendly and overall it was a lovely experience.
