Where do you get your free wi-fi?

Despite the many (many) cafes and restaurants, Greenwich is somewhat lacking in the free-wi-fi department. Central London seems to be covered in cafes with free wi-fi and it would be nicer to see a few more pop up in town.

Here are the free wi-fi places that I know of:

The ever wonderful  Greenwich Union on Royal Hill. Internet and beer! Woo!

The Starbucks on Greenwich Church Street. The wi-fi is free if you have a Starbucks card.

The internet cafe above San Miguel. I've never used this place, I imagine it's all very 'computers in a row' rather than cosy chairs and lattes.

Nevada Street Deli by the park. This cafe is lovely, although I never seem to have much luck getting the internet to work, I like it here.

But to my knowledge, that's it! In a whole sea of little cafes, there's only four I know of that offer free wi-fi (or indeed, any kind of wi-fi). Am I missing some? Tell me in the comments! It would be great to see this offered throughout Greenwich as standard.

Speaking of all things internet, if you want to keep in touch with Greenwich People, you can become a fan on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter as well!

This post is quite old but it shows up first on Google when searching for wifi in Greenwich so I guess it's worth keeping it up-to-date.

Moved to Greenwich a few weeks ago and tried to find places with wifi until I could get broadband installed in the flat. Not easy indeed.

As the OP mentioned, Starbucks is a good bet. If you don't have a Starbucks card, you get get one for free at the counter when you pay for your coffee and activate it on the spot to get internet access. The staff is helpful and is more than happy for you to sit there with your laptop and a coffee for as long as you like. Internet connection is fast, reliable and unlimited. The only issue with Starbuck is that it's quite small so hard to get a seat at times, noisy and little privacy.

Davy's wine vaults (right next to the Greenwich DLR station) is a good spot too. There's a big terrace outside and a large coffee room inside (separate from the restaurant area). Wifi works and is fast. Staff is happy for you to sit there with a coffee and your laptop (I actually asked). A much nicer place than starbucks. And you can get proper bar or restaurant food too if you want.

I've tried the Bar du Musee but although it's a really nice place, I've never been able to get the wifi to work. Same for the National Maritime Museum. Couldn't get it to work (and it seemed to be limited to 45 minutes anyway so not all that useful).

The National Maritime Museum and Royal Observatory provide free wifi, so you can sit with your laptop in the Museum's cafes or gallery spaces and browse the internet. If you don't have a laptop you can also access the internet on the Museum's E-library computer terminals.
