Greenwich and The Crime Map

On paper, the Crime Map seems like an excellent idea. Spot where crimes are in your area (or indeed an area you're thinking of moving to) and perhaps take your safety into consideration a little more, and know that there are beat bobbies in the area as well. And hopefully, we'll be able to see in which areas crime is reducing.

In reality, it's terrifying.

In December, you can see from that map that there were 776 crimes in Greenwich. Including 100 violent crimes. That's the figure that scares me (most of it occurred in the Deptford and new Cross areas). Unless that figure goes down, I'm not sure I want to see that. I certainly didn't need to know how many burglaries took place within walking distance of my house.

I understand that point of the map, but I can't help think it's going to be more detrimental to improving local communities. Or, stop us leaving our houses entirely.

What do you think? Do you think we should know exactly where crime is occuring? Have you look up your street?
